Abstract

The Consumer Tendency Index (ITK) is an index that describes the economic conditions of consumers in the current quarter and estimates for the next quarter. ITK is produced by the Central Statistics Agency through the Consumer Tendency Survey (STK) and is carried out periodically every quarter. Through ITK, you can find out the latest economic developments on a quarterly basis. STK respondents are a sub-sample of the National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) specifically in urban areas. Sample selection was carried out on a panel basis between quarters to obtain a more accurate picture of changes in consumer perceptions over time. By expanding the sample, ITK values can be presented at the provincial level. This effort is expected to be able to meet increasingly diverse data needs up to the regional level (spatial between provinces).

The ITK value for Lampung Province in the second quarter of 2012 was 106.87. This shows that the economic condition of Lampung consumers in the second quarter of 2012 improved compared to the previous quarter, with the level of optimism also increasing.

The improvement in consumer economic conditions in the second quarter of 2012 was mainly driven by an increase in current household income and increased consumption of several food and non-food commodities. However, consumers' economic conditions are under pressure due to the increasing influence of inflation on daily food consumption.

The economic condition of consumers in Lampung Province in the third quarter of 2012 is estimated to improve with an ITK value of 109.62. This means that the level of optimism among Lampung consumers is expected to increase compared to the second quarter of 2012 which reached 106.87.

Estimates of improving consumer economic conditions are driven by increases in household income and plans to purchase durable goods.
