Abstract

  • The number of poor people in Lampung in March 2012 reached 1,253,834 thousand people (16.18 percent), a decrease of 44.9 thousand people (0.75 percent) compared to the poor population in March 2011 which was 1,298,707 thousand people (16, 93 percent).
  • During the period March 2011-March 2012, the poor population in urban areas decreased by around 2.9 thousand people (from 241.94 thousand people in March 2011 to 239.07 thousand people in March 2012), while in rural areas it decreased by 42.0 thousand people (from 1,056.77 thousand people in March 2011 to 1,014.77 thousand people in March 2012).
  • The poor population in urban areas in March 2011 was 12.27 percent, decreasing to 12.00 percent in March 2012. Likewise with the poor population in rural areas, namely from 18.54 percent in March 2011 to 17.63 percent in March 2012 .
  • The role of food commodities on the Poverty Line is much greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education and health). In March 2012, the contribution of the Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line was 76.20 percent, not much different from March 2011 which was 76.02 percent.
  • Food commodities that have a big influence on the Poverty Line value in urban areas are rice, filter clove cigarettes, purebred chicken eggs and tempeh. Meanwhile, commodities that have a big influence on the Poverty Line value in rural areas are rice, granulated sugar, filtered clove cigarettes and purebred chicken eggs. The non-food commodity that has a big influence on the Poverty Line value in urban areas is housing, as well as in rural areas.
  • In the period March 2011-March 2012, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) showed a downward trend. This indicates that the average expenditure of the poor tends to get closer to the Poverty Line and the inequality in expenditure of the poor is also narrowing.
