In preparing economic development plans, information about economic developments in a relatively short period of time is often needed. The information in question can, among other things, be obtained through a study of Quarterly GRDP data and indicators. Apart from planning, quarterly GRDP can also be used to develop econometric models to observe short-term or seasonal economic fluctuations.
In the first quarter of 2009, Lampung's economy grew 8.25 percent compared to the previous quarter (q to q). However, when compared with the same quarter in 2008 (y on y) Lampung's economy grew by 3.97 percent. Cumulatively, Lampung's economic growth up to the first quarter of 2009 (c to c) was still the same as y on y growth.
Of the nine sectors, five sectors recorded positive growth and the other four sectors experienced negative growth (q to q). The sector that experienced the largest growth was the Agricultural sector, namely 23.00 percent, followed by the Transportation/Communications sector (3.81 percent).
When compared with conditions in the first quarter of 2008 (y on y), Lampung's economy grew 3.97 percent. All sectors grew positively except for the Finance/Rental/Corporate Services and Mining/Quarching sectors. The largest growth was experienced by the Transportation/Communications sector (13.93), followed by the Processing Industry sector (7.54 percent) and Services (5.76 percent).
Lampung's economic structure in the first quarter of 2009 experienced a slight change in sequence composition. The Manufacturing Industry sector, which previously provided the fourth largest contribution, this quarter took third place, displacing the Services sector. The agricultural sector is still the sector that provides the largest contribution (40.25 percent), followed by the trade/hotel/restaurant sector (13.37 percent), processing industry (13.31 percent), transportation/communication (9.69 percent) and Services sector (9.22 percent).
