After 2022, the tourism sector will
experience an extraordinary revival after slumping in 2020 and 2021 due to the
pandemic. This growth was driven by increased community mobility as well as
increased tourist visits from both foreign and local tourists. The increase in
the number of tourists needs to be balanced with an increase in the provision
of accommodation rooms. Therefore, the hotel industry is an important element
of tourism.
The length of stay of hotel guests
is an important indicator to find out how interested tourists are in the area
they are visiting. The longer tourists stay in an area indicates that the area
is attractive to tourists. Hotel occupancy rates also play an important role as
an indicator of a hotel's success in selling its rooms. The higher the
occupancy rate means the greater the number of rooms that can be sold. Apart
from that, currently there is a growing trend in organizing several activities
at hotels such as seminars, meetings, workshops and MICE activities (meetings,
incentives, conventions and exhibitions) which help encourage the development
of the tourism industry and create jobs.
Therefore, it is important to
provide statistical data that is informative, accurate and complete. To meet
these needs, the Mesuji Regency Central Statistics Agency (BPS) conducted a
Hotel Room Occupancy Rate (VHTS) survey. This survey is carried out every month
on a regular basis. On Thursday (4/4/2024), field officers from BPS Mesuji
Regency carried out the survey enumeration. The census was carried out by
direct interviews with each hotel respondent selected as a sample using the
Fasih-Mobile application. The use of Fasih-Mobile is carried out to accelerate
digitalization in conducting surveys at BPS. The census was carried out at
non-star hotels in Mesuji Regency. There are a total of six hotel samples that
must be enumerated. All hotels have worked together well, so that there is no
non-response and quality data is maintained.
